Amazon (AMZN) invests in 1 GW nuclear project in Indiana, creating over 1,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent positions.

What it means

Hyperscaler commitments to nuclear generation have become a recognisable template: cloud and AI power demand outrunning grid capacity has pushed the large platforms toward direct stakes in reactors, restarts and small modular projects, typically alongside long-dated power purchase agreements. Precedent deals of this kind have tended to re-rate the nuclear and independent power producer complex more durably than the sponsor's own equity, since for the buyer the spend is a rounding error on capex while for the generator it is contracted revenue and de-risked financing. The mechanism that matters is the data centre load curve: power availability, not chips, has been the binding constraint on AI buildout timelines, and securing firm baseload addresses it directly. The points worth watching are the deal structure (equity stake versus PPA versus development partnership), regulatory and licensing timelines which have historically stretched well beyond initial announcements, and whether the project is new build, uprate or restart, since those carry very different delivery risk. Follow-ons in past episodes have been copycat announcements from peer platforms and re-ratings across uranium, utility and reactor supply chain names.
