ArcelorMittal (MT NA) says it is halting primary steel production Kryvyi Rih plant in Ukraine while damage and repair needs are assessed following a ballistic missile attack on Saturday
Attacks on Ukrainian heavy industry have been a recurring feature of the conflict, and steel assets in particular have cycled through damage, repair, and partial restart, with output resumption historically measured in months rather than weeks when primary facilities are hit.

The operative distinction here is between primary production, meaning the blast furnace and crude steel chain where a cold furnace is slow and costly to relight, and downstream rolling or mining operations, which can restart far faster; the headline flags the former, which is the more durable outage. Kryvyi Rih is among the company's larger crude steel footprints, so a prolonged halt tightens European flat product supply at the margin and tends to show up in regional HRC pricing and in the company's own shipment guidance rather than in global benchmarks immediately. Worth watching is the damage assessment language in follow-up statements, since 'assessment' phrasing has in past episodes preceded anything from quick restarts to extended closures, and whether the company redirects volume through its other European mills, which has been its standard playbook for supply disruption. For the equity, prior form in conflict-related outages is that the stock absorbs the headline quickly unless group-level guidance is cut; the steel spread is the more sensitive transmission channel.
