Context
Pricing actions of this kind from a near-monopoly supplier of mission-critical equipment have historically been difficult for customers to resist: lithography uptime is binary for a fab, and service and parts revenue is exactly the segment where ASML holds its strongest leverage, since switching costs on installed EUV and DUV fleets are effectively infinite. The transmission runs from ASML's recurring revenue line, which the market has long treated as the higher-quality, annuity-like portion of the model, into the cost base of the Korean memory makers, whose installed ASML fleets are among the densest anywhere. A long lead time to implementation, well over a year out, is the notable feature: customers have historically used such windows to negotiate scope down, accelerate purchases ahead of the effective date, or push back through procurement, and memory makers have prior form of collective pushback on supplier cost increases when their own cycle is soft. The distinction worth drawing is between a genuine across-the-board uplift to service revenue and an opening negotiating position, which a two-year runway often signals. The tells are any response from the Korean side, whether the action extends beyond Korea to other geographies, and how ASML frames it on its next earnings call, where parts and service pricing rarely gets granular disclosure. Reportedly sourced and single-geography, the read is directional on installed-base monetisation rather than a confirmed change to numbers.
