Context

GDPNow is a running nowcast, not an official print, and its revisions on new data inputs are frequent; the desk precedent is that single-step moves of this size within a quarter are routine and carry little signal on their own, with the nowcast historically converging toward the advance estimate only in the final weeks of the quarter. What has mattered in past cycles is the composition behind a revision: upgrades driven by consumption and investment have tended to feed the front end through firmer rate expectations, while inventory- or net-trade-driven moves are more often faded as low-quality growth. A nowcast running at this kind of pace argues against imminent easing and keeps the terminal-rate question alive, but Fed officials have on previous occasions treated model nowcasts with caution relative to the hard data flow. The follow-ons are which release drove the revision, whether the Blue Chip consensus moves with it, and how the print sits against the next labour and inflation data. As a model output rather than a release, the signal is directional at best.
