Atlanta Fed GDPNow (Q3 2026): 4.4% (prev. 4.7%)
GDPNow is a nowcast rather than an official estimate, mechanically rebuilt as each input release lands, so single-print revisions of this size are routine and typically trace to one or two component data points rather than any change in underlying momentum.

Episodes of this kind have shown the estimate wandering well away from the eventual BEA print early in a quarter and converging only as the quarter matures and hard data fill in, which is why desk convention is to weight the trajectory of revisions over the level. A modest downward revision on an already elevated nowcast still leaves the implied growth pace above trend, so the signal for the front end is directional at most; the curve tends to respond to the source data driving the revision rather than to the nowcast itself. Worth noting is the actor here: the Atlanta Fed model carries no policy voice, and FOMC officials have historically treated it as a tracking device rather than evidence, so it does not shift the reaction function on its own. The tells are which subcomponents moved, whether other tracking estimates move in sympathy, and where the revision sits relative to the quarter's remaining data calendar.
