Australia's combined BHP (BHP AT) ports union says workers and their elected representatives met with BHP and formally rejected BHP's proposal
Industrial disputes at Australian iron ore export infrastructure follow a familiar script: rejection of an initial offer, a period of protected industrial action or the threat of it, and eventual settlement, usually without material disruption to shipments.

The instances that have genuinely moved the seaborne iron ore market have been those where stoppages coincided with tight port inventories, cyclone season, or maintenance schedules, since loading rates at Pilbara ports leave limited slack to recover lost tonnes quickly. Short of actual strike action, the market read-through is typically confined to freight sentiment and prompt cargo premiums rather than the underlying supply balance. The actors here have prior form: maritime and port unions in Australia have historically used ballot and notice periods as leverage, and BHP has historically settled before sustained action. The tells from here are formal notices of industrial action, any ballot outcomes, and whether port throughput data or shipping fixtures begin to show loading delays rather than rhetoric. Until a stoppage is scheduled, this is positioning, not supply loss.
