Context

Final GDP prints are confirmatory by design and have historically carried minimal information content relative to the flash estimate, with revisions at this stage tending to be modest and largely absorbed without lasting effect. A downward revision of this magnitude between preliminary and final readings is at the larger end of what such revisions usually deliver, which makes it worth noting as a composition question: final releases are where trade, inventories and domestic demand splits first become visible, and the source of the downgrade matters more than the headline itself. Belgian output data in isolation has rarely been a market mover; its relevance runs through the euro area aggregate, where revisions across smaller member states collectively feed into the bloc-level estimate and, at the margin, the ECB's growth assessment. The distinction worth drawing is between a revision driven by net trade or inventories, which tends to be treated as noise, and one rooted in domestic demand, which carries more signal about underlying momentum. The follow-ons are the euro area's own second estimate and whether peer revisions point in the same direction. As a single small-economy final print, the signal is weak.
