Chile's Codelco copper production fell 4.8% Y/Y to 114,400 tonnes in June, Escondida copper mine production rose 45.8% Y/Y to 111,400 tonnes, Collahuasi mine copper production rose 1.7% Y/Y to 34,900 tonnes in June, accordingto Cochilco

Context

Cochilco's monthly production series is the standard read on Chilean supply, and the split within it has tended to matter more than the headline total: state-run Codelco has a long record of underperformance tied to ageing mines, project delays and ore grade decline, while privately operated Escondida has historically swung sharply with grade cycles and throughput recoveries. A month in which Codelco output falls while Escondida jumps by a large percentage fits that established pattern rather than breaking it, and single-month moves at individual mines have usually reflected grades and maintenance schedules rather than a durable trend. The transmission to the copper market runs through treatment charges and concentrate availability for smelters, which is where Chilean supply shifts have historically shown up before refined balances move. Worth noting is that Escondida's rise roughly offsets Codelco's decline in tonnage terms, leaving the net Chilean supply picture closer to flat than either figure implies on its own. The follow-ons are the next Cochilco prints to establish whether Codelco's softness is persistent, and company-level guidance from the operators concerned.
