Lam Research (LRCX) says its preliminary CY27 wafer fabrication equipment outlook exceeds USD 200bln (exp. CY26 USD 150bln), driven by DRAM, NAND and foundry/logic demand.

What it means

A preliminary WFE market figure given this far ahead is a familiar Lam move: the company has form for issuing early, round-number industry frameworks on calls, and the read-across historically matters more for the memory and foundry peer set than for Lam alone. The mechanism worth noting is the composition: when growth of this kind is attributed to DRAM and NAND alongside foundry/logic, it implies the memory capex recovery extending rather than a one-year restock, which is how equipment names like AMAT, KLAC and ASML have tended to trade off the same prints. The distinction that separates how this lands is whether the figure is framed as industry TAM, which lifts the group, or as Lam-specific share gain, which concentrates it; this reads as the former. Prior cycles show these long-dated preliminary numbers get revised, sometimes materially, as memory pricing and customer capex plans firm up, so the number itself is a positioning anchor more than a commitment. Worth watching are how memory makers' own capex commentary corroborates the demand attribution, and whether peers echo the sizing on their next calls, since convergence across the group has been the more reliable signal than any single company's framework.
