FTSE 100 reshuffles follow a well-worn mechanical sequence: the review announcement sets up passive rebalancing flows into the effective date, with entrants tending to see tracker demand and leavers the mirror-image supply, a pattern that typically concentrates in the closing auction on implementation day.

Context

The Elliott position in Deutsche Telekom is the more open-ended thread; activists of this stripe have historically pushed capital returns over transformative M&A at large incumbents, and the pushback against deeper T-Mobile US integration, given the majority stake already held, frames this as a fight over cash deployment rather than control. The Shell and BP block swap is routine portfolio high-grading of the kind the majors have run continuously, moving exploration acreage between balance sheets rather than signalling strategic change. Vodafone's TV launch fits the long-standing carrier playbook of bundling third-party streaming to defend broadband churn rather than building content. Watch the day-ahead slate: services PMIs, ISM, claims and a heavy Fed speaker lineup alongside French, Spanish and UK supply, which between them set the rate backdrop these equity stories trade against.
