Context
A final CPI print landing exactly on the flash estimate is the norm for this release: revisions between the preliminary and final French readings are uncommon and small when they occur, so the market-relevant information was priced at the flash. The swing from a positive prior month to a negative monthly reading is largely seasonal, September typically reflecting the unwind of summer pricing in services, airfares and tourism-related categories, which is why the year-on-year rate and the HICP harmonised measure carry more signal than the month-on-month print. France's weight in the euro area HICP aggregate is what gives the release its transmission channel: it feeds the eurozone flash estimate that the ECB staff projections are built around, so the read-across runs through the bloc-wide print rather than through French assets in isolation. In line finals of this kind have historically been non-events for OATs and the euro, with attention shifting immediately to the equivalent German and Italian prints and then the aggregate. What is worth noting is whether the detail shows the disinflation concentrated in volatile components or broadening into core services, the distinction that has mattered for the ECB's assessment of underlying persistence.
