French Industrial Production MoM (Jun) M/M 0.1% vs. Exp. 0.2% (Prev. -0.1%)
French industrial production is a second-tier eurozone release and prints of this size, a tenth either side of consensus, rarely move the euro on their own; the single currency historically trades off the German numbers and the eurozone aggregate rather than the French print in isolation. The marginal miss against expectation is small relative to the series' usual revision noise, and the prior month's negative reading keeps the underlying pattern intact: French industry has spent extended periods flat to contracting while services carried the growth mix, a divergence that has characterised the bloc's post-tightening phase. The transmission channel, to the extent one exists, runs through the growth leg of the ECB's reaction function rather than inflation, and soft activity readings have on past occasions mattered only in aggregation, shifting the balance of commentary among the doves rather than repricing the path alone. The follow-ons that determine whether this print gains weight are the German factory and production data, the eurozone-wide aggregate, and the next round of survey data, since a pattern of misses across the large economies is what has historically fed into staff projections. As a standalone observation the signal is weak and largely confirmatory.
