French PPI (Aug MM) 1.0% (Prev. 1.3%)

A national producer price print of this size is second-tier for euro rates; French PPI has historically mattered mainly as a partial read on the euro area aggregate and on the pipeline into HICP, rather than as a standalone driver of the front end.

Context

A deceleration of the monthly rate, as here, fits the pattern seen in past disinflation phases where easing in energy and intermediate goods feeds through to factory-gate prices with a lag before reaching consumer baskets. The distinction worth drawing is between domestically generated price pressure, which the ECB watches for wage and services persistence, and imported or energy-driven moves, which tend to be discounted as transitory. The follow-ons are the euro area PPI aggregate and the national CPI prints that frame the next HICP, which is where this kind of data has historically found its transmission into OIS pricing. Single-country PPI rarely re-prices EGB spreads on its own; French paper trades off the aggregate story and the fiscal backdrop instead.
