Frontline (FRO) CEO says oil exports from inside the Strait of Hormuz are expected to rise going forward after the shutdown of the Saudi East-West Pipeline
The East-West pipeline is the principal route for moving Saudi crude to Red Sea terminals without transiting the Strait of Hormuz, so its shutdown mechanically redirects volumes back through the strait and onto tankers rather than reducing export availability as such.

- Middle East oil producers say they need to own tankers themselves to move oil from inside the Strait of Hormuz.
That inversion of the usual risk logic is the notable feature: historical episodes of pipeline disruption or outage have raised ton-mile demand and tanker utilisation for exactly this reason, with the freight market typically repricing before the crude market does. Comments from tanker company executives advocating producer ownership of fleets fit a long-running pattern of owners talking up structural demand during tightness, and such framing from the largest listed players has tended to track, rather than lead, the rate cycle. The distinction worth drawing is between a physical supply interruption, which would tighten crude outright, and a logistical rerouting, which tightens shipping capacity and elevates freight and insurance costs while leaving the barrels themselves available. Follow-ons of interest are whether the outage duration becomes defined, how VLCC rates on the Gulf routes respond relative to longer-haul benchmarks, and whether producers actually commit to tonnage rather than chartering. A tanker CEO's read on export expectations is a demand-side signal for shipping, not an independent read on production.
