German Bavaria CPI (Sep MM) 0.6% (Prev. 0.2%)

Bavaria is one of the first state-level prints released ahead of the national German CPI, and the sequence is well established: the Lander numbers land through the morning and the market effectively reconstructs the federal figure before the preliminary national release.

Context

A firm monthly acceleration against the prior print, if mirrored in the other states, has historically been read through to the national harmonised number rather than treated as a regional idiosyncrasy, since the state weightings sum to the whole. The mechanism that matters is what German inflation does to the ECB pricing distribution, given Germany's weight in the euro area aggregate, so the read-across runs from the state prints to the national flash, to the euro area figure, and from there to the front of the ESTR curve. Worth noting that single-state reads can diverge from the national figure when rent, package holiday or energy components move unevenly across regions, so confirmation in the other Lander releases is the usual tell. The follow-on calendar is the remaining state prints and the national flash, with the ECB speakers' calendar the second-order watch.
