German CPI Final (Jul MM) 0.8% vs. Exp. 0.8% (Prev. -0.3%)
A final German inflation print matching both the flash estimate and consensus is the standard pattern for this release: the first estimate carries essentially all of the information content, and finals historically pass without repricing unless they revise the flash, which happens only occasionally and usually by a tenth. The swing from a negative prior month to a firm positive monthly rate is a familiar seasonal shape in this series, where the turn of season around holiday, travel and clothing categories produces sharp month-to-month reversals that say little about the underlying trend. The distinction worth drawing is between the national CPI measure and the harmonised HICP rate the ECB targets; German national prints have on occasion diverged from the harmonised series, and it is the HICP aggregation across the bloc, not any single national print, that feeds the policy debate. An in-line final shifts attention to the euro area aggregate release and to the next round of national first estimates, which reset the calendar. As a confirmation print, the signal is minimal.
