Context

Final German HICP prints are confirmatory by construction: the flash estimate carries the market-moving information, and the final round has historically repriced the curve only on the rare occasions when national or harmonised figures are revised, which an in-line reading rules out here. What the final does add is the sub-index detail, the split between goods, services, energy and food, which is where any signal about domestic versus imported pressure sits. The step up from the prior monthly pace is the more interesting feature, since a re-acceleration from a soft base in the euro area's largest economy feeds directly into the bloc-wide aggregate that the ECB reacts to, and German prints have tended to set the tone for the euro area release that follows. The transmission channel, when there is one, is the front end of the EUR curve via expectations for the deposit rate path rather than the long end. The follow-ons of note are the euro area aggregate and the next round of ECB commentary, since officials have historically leaned on country-level detail when framing whether disinflation is broad or energy-driven. As an unrevised final, this print is a footnote to the flash rather than an event in itself.
