Tour the PlatformA preliminary German HICP print is the first and most-watched of the euro-area flash releases, and its main transmission channel runs through positioning for the bloc-wide figure rather than through the German number in isolation, since German states' earlier regional prints usually telegraph part of the surprise. A miss against consensus with the annual rate still accelerating relative to the prior month frames a distinction that has mattered in past episodes: whether the surprise is a story about energy base effects and volatile components, which the ECB has historically looked through, or about the stickier services and core measures that have governed the reaction function. Bunds and the front end of the EONIA curve have typically repriced on the composition, not the headline, and on whether the miss is corroborated by the other large member states' flashes due around the same window. The usual sequence is regional German prints, the national flash, then the euro-area aggregate, with each step narrowing the information content of the last. A single soft national print has rarely on its own shifted the pricing of an imminent ECB decision; it has done so when it confirms a pattern across countries and against the staff projection round. The follow-ons that carry weight are the core rate, the remaining national flashes, and how the figure sits relative to the ECB's own forecast trajectory.
