The pattern in past cycles has been for the states to print through the morning and the national number to be largely anticipated by the time it lands, so the marginal information content concentrates in how broad-based the state surprises are, not in any one print. An acceleration of this size in the headline state feeds directly into expectations for the euro area aggregate and, through it, into ECB pricing at the front end of the curve, where stickier German inflation has in previous episodes pulled the timing of expected easing back. The distinction worth drawing is between energy and base effects driving the year-on-year rate versus underlying services momentum, since the former tends to be discounted and the latter has historically been what shifts the committee. The follow-ons are the remaining state prints, the national flash, and then the euro area figure, with Bunds and EONIA forwards the usual transmission. Note the Deere tag on this headline appears anomalous and unrelated to the data.
