German PPI (Aug MM) 1.1% vs. Exp. 0.4% (Prev. 1.1%)
German factory-gate inflation running well above consensus, with the prior month unrevised at the same pace, points to persistent pipeline pressure at the producer level rather than a one-off.

German PPI has historically been a noisy series dominated by energy and intermediate goods, so the pass-through question is the one that matters: whether the strength sits in energy components, which tend to fade from the index, or in broader goods categories, which have tended to precede stickier consumer-price prints with a lag of several months. For the rates side, upside surprises in German price data have typically worked through the front end of the EGB curve and Bund-BTP or swap-spread dynamics only when they corroborate a pattern already visible in euro-area CPI and wage data; a single PPI beat on its own has rarely shifted ECB pricing durably. The follow-ons are the breakdown when the detail is parsed, the upcoming national and euro-area CPI prints, and whether ECB commentary treats pipeline pressure as a live concern. Worth noting the series' recent volatility has been amplified by energy base effects, which cuts both ways on interpretation.
