Germany sells EUR 2.12bln vs Exp. 2.5bln 3.40% 2047 and 2.90% 2056 Bund
Dual-tranche long-end Bund taps of this kind are read less on the headline allotment, which fell short of the targeted amount, than on the bid-to-cover and retention split, since Finanzagentur retention is a standard feature of German supply and a higher kept share mechanically lowers what the street has to absorb.

- 3.40% 2047: b/c 2.44x (prev. 2.3x), average yield - (prev. 3.60%), retention 13.62% (prev. 9.8%)
- 2.90% 2056: b/c 2.42x (prev. 2.9x), average yield - (prev. 3.64%), retention 24.3% (prev. 23.2%)
The 2047 line drew firmer cover than its prior outing alongside a higher retention, while the 2056 line saw cover slip with retention broadly steady, a mixed picture that is typical for ultra-long tenors where the buyer base is narrower and more sensitive to concession building into the auction. On past occasions, undersized allotment with healthy cover has tended to be absorbed as a nonevent, with the long end trading off the prevailing duration tone rather than the tap itself; the pattern that has mattered is a sequence of weakening tails across consecutive auctions, which signals genuine indigestion rather than a quiet book. The distinction worth drawing is between the two maturities: the 30-year sector trades off rate expectations and swap spreads, while the ultra-long 2056 bucket is dominated by liability-driven demand, so divergent cover between the two says more about pension and insurance appetite than about the curve. The follow-ons are the next conventional and linker supply, the behaviour of the ultra-long spread to swaps around syndications, and whether retention ratios trend higher across the funding calendar.
