Context

Forecasts of this kind come from the annual delegate survey at the precious metals industry's main conference, a long-running straw poll of refiners, dealers, miners and analysts rather than a formal bank target, and it functions as a snapshot of sell-side and industry consensus at the event. The historical pattern is that these polls have tended to anchor near the prevailing spot price and extrapolate the recent trend, which has meant large undershoots in strong bull runs and overshoots after peaks; they have worked better as a sentiment gauge than as a point forecast, with the dispersion across delegates often more informative than the median. A forecast level materially above spot implies consensus expects the drivers behind the current leg, typically some mix of official-sector accumulation, real-rate expectations and hedge demand, to persist rather than mean-revert. The tells worth noting are the spread between the gold forecast and the silver and platinum forecasts in the same survey, and whether the bullishness is concentrated in the buy side or shared by producers, since producer optimism has historically coincided with increased hedging that leans on forward prices. As a survey rather than a positioned call, it moves little on release; its use is as a marker of where consensus sat when the next leg is judged.
