Context
A month-on-month print matching the prior reading is, on its own, thin: Hungarian CPI moves markets through the year-on-year rate and the core and services components, which carry the persistence signal the central bank actually conditions on. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has historically run one of the more reactive policy stances in the region, and episodes where Hungarian inflation has surprised have tended to transmit through the forint first and the short end of the HUF curve second, given how much of the carry case rests on the real-rate cushion. An unchanged sequential pace is consistent with a steady disinflation path, but the prior base and seasonal pattern matter more than the flat headline here. What carries signal is whether the accompanying annual rate and core detail corroborate or contradict the central bank's most recent guidance, since the NBH has framed easing as strictly data-dependent and meeting-by-meeting. The follow-ons are the year-on-year and core prints, any accompanying statistical office detail on administered and food prices, and the next NBH rate-setting calendar.
