Context

A jump in Indian deposit growth of this size bears first on the credit-deposit balance that has constrained the banking system: episodes where deposit growth closes on or overtakes loan growth have historically eased the competition for liabilities, taken pressure off deposit and wholesale funding rates, and gradually softened the case for tight liquidity management by the RBI. The mechanism runs through bank margins and transmission, since cheap deposit funding is what lets policy rate moves pass into lending rates, and through demand for government paper, as banks with surplus deposits have tended to add to SLR and non-SLR bond holdings. One strong fortnightly print in the RBI's scheduled bank data often reflects seasonal or base effects rather than a trend, so the follow-on prints matter more than the first. The distinction worth drawing is between deposit-led and loan-side convergence: deposit growth accelerating is supportive for the front of the curve, while credit growth decelerating toward deposits would carry a different read on activity. Watch the accompanying credit growth number and any shift in liquidity conditions and RBI operations for confirmation.
