Indian WPI Inflation (Aug YY) 9.92% vs. Exp. 9.89% (Prev. 9.78%)
A wholesale print landing essentially on consensus is the kind of release that rarely moves Indian assets on its own; the repricing channel runs through what it implies for the central bank's reaction function, and a deviation this small leaves that calculus untouched.

In India the WPI series matters less for policy than the consumer price index, which is the formal inflation target variable, so wholesale readings have historically served as a pipeline indicator for input costs and corporate margins rather than as a direct trigger for rate expectations. The distinction worth drawing is between food and fuel components, which drive headline volatility, and core or manufactured products inflation, which is what tends to feed through to consumer prices with a lag. Where wholesale inflation runs materially above consumer inflation, past episodes have seen margin compression in producer-facing sectors rather than an immediate policy response. The follow-ons that matter are the consumer price release and any commentary from the central bank, which together carry far more weight for the rates curve than this series. As a standalone print in line with expectations, the signal is minimal.
