Industrial Production (Aug YY) 1.4% (Prev. 1.1%)
Industrial production is a second-tier release for US rates and the dollar, historically moving markets only when it corroborates or contradicts the signal from the survey data, payrolls and inflation prints that dominate the Fed's reaction function.

A year-on-year acceleration from the prior reading points to a manufacturing sector still expanding, though the YY comparison smooths the month-to-month noise that the Fed itself tends to weight more heavily, and the utility and mining components often drive the headline more than factory output. The more informative companion in this release family is capacity utilisation, which has historically been the cleaner read on slack and pipeline pricing pressure; a firm utilisation print alongside rising output has been the combination that matters for the hawkish side of the committee. With no consensus figure attached to the headline, the surprise element cannot be assessed from the wire alone, which limits the initial signal to direction rather than magnitude. Worth watching is whether the Fed's own industrial detail, particularly manufacturing ex autos and high-tech, confirms the acceleration, and how it sits against the soft-survey divergence that has characterised previous soft patches in the goods sector.
