Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei says “enemy forces” do not dare enter the Gulf and the Arabian Sea will soon be cleared of “enemies”

Statements framed around clearing foreign forces from the Gulf and Arabian Sea point at the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint through which a substantial share of seaborne crude and LNG transits, and it is the threat to that passage rather than the wording itself that has driven past repricings. The established pattern is that verbal signalling alone tends to add only a modest geopolitical premium to crude and tanker rates, while any accompanying action, seizures, harassment of shipping, or attacks on infrastructure, is what has historically moved freight, insurance costs, and the front of the oil curve in size. The distinction worth drawing is between defiance aimed at a domestic audience and signalling that precedes operational steps; prior form has been heavy on the former. The tells are follow-on statements from the IRGC naval arm, tanker traffic and insurance pricing in the strait, and any response from US or allied naval assets in the region. As it stands this is rhetoric, and rhetoric of this type has more often faded than escalated.
