IRGC Navy Commander says no oil will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Mehr News reports

Tour the PlatformThreats from IRGC officials to close or block the Strait of Hormuz are a recurring feature of periods of Iranian escalation, and in past episodes they have tended to remain rhetoric rather than action: a full closure has never been executed even at the height of prior confrontations, partly because it would cut off Iran's own crude exports and invite a direct military response. The established market pattern is an initial risk premium in crude and freight, which historically fades if tanker traffic through the strait continues uninterrupted, and builds only when the threat is matched by enforcement behaviour. The tells that have mattered in comparable episodes are physical rather than verbal: harassment or seizure of tankers, mining activity, AIS track disruptions, and war-risk insurance premia for Gulf transits, all of which transmit to crude through freight and insurance costs before any actual supply loss. The rank of the speaker matters too, since remarks from service commanders carry less weight than those from the supreme leader's office or the IRGC's top command. Worth watching are statements from Tehran's senior political leadership, any movement of US and allied naval assets in the Gulf, and tanker fixture and insurance data for the strait. As it stands, this is rhetorical escalation of a familiar kind rather than a confirmed disruption to flows.
