Context

Attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure by the Houthis are an established pattern with a recognisable template: an initial headline via semi-official or regional media, followed by a lag before damage assessments, and a crude risk premium that has historically faded quickly when throughput proves intact and persisted only where physical capacity is genuinely impaired. The East-West line matters specifically because it is the kingdom's bypass route around the Strait of Hormuz, carrying crude to Red Sea export terminals, so an outage there removes part of the very spare routing flexibility the market assumes in a Gulf escalation scenario. The case distinction that has mattered in comparable episodes is between drone and missile strikes that are intercepted or cause superficial damage, which tend to retrace within sessions, and strikes that hit pumping or processing hardware and take volumes off the market, which have in the past driven the largest single-day crude moves on record. Confirmation flow is the tell: official Saudi acknowledgement, any force majeure or export scheduling changes out of Yanbu, and freight and war-risk insurance quotes on Red Sea loadings, which typically reprice before flat price does. ISNA carrying the report also frames it within the Iran-proxy signalling channel, which in past escalations has preceded either retaliation rhetoric or back-channel de-escalation within days.
