Italian HICP Final (Jul YY) 2.9% vs. Exp. 2.9% (Prev. 3%)
Final readings of national HICP rarely carry information in themselves; the revision between flash and final prints is typically small, and an in-line confirmation leaves the initial market read untouched. The transmission channel for Italian inflation runs less through domestic rates than through the ECB reaction function and the BTP-Bund spread, and at this stage of the release calendar the national prints matter mainly as inputs to the euro-area aggregate rather than as standalone signals. The distinction worth drawing is between headline and core and between goods and services components: it is the services and core detail that has historically driven ECB deliberation, while energy-driven headline moves have tended to be looked through. Worth noting is how the print sits relative to the flash estimate and whether the euro-area aggregate, which follows, is revised on the back of it. Peripheral spread sensitivity to single data points of this size has generally been minimal absent a surprise.
