Tour the PlatformA manufacturing PMI slipping back below the 50 line after a stretch in expansion territory is a familiar pattern in euro area survey cycles, where single-month moves have often reversed and the signal only firms up after two or three consecutive prints on the same side of the threshold. The size of the miss versus consensus matters less than the direction of the underlying components: new orders and export orders have historically been the parts that lead, while employment and output tend to lag. Italian manufacturing has typically tracked the broader euro area complex, so the question is whether this print is idiosyncratic or a precursor to a softer bloc-wide figure, which is where the transmission into Bund-BTP spreads and the EUR crosses tends to run. The follow-ons are the remaining national PMIs and the composite readings, and whether the services side continues to offset manufacturing weakness, a divergence that has characterised recent cycles. A sub-50 print alone has rarely repriced policy expectations on its own; it has mattered when it feeds into the growth leg of the ECB's reaction function alongside other soft surveys. Note the headline tags appear miscoded and the release is the standard Italian manufacturing survey.
