Context

The index is a composite of already-published components, so it carries little new information and has rarely moved JPY or JGBs even on sizeable misses; the more followed coincident index, which feeds the government's assessment of the business cycle, tends to matter more for the official narrative than for pricing. The distinction worth drawing is between the leading reading, which is largely backward-looked and statistical, and the high-frequency data the Bank of Japan actually cites, namely Tankan, CPI ex fresh food, and wage settlements. Prints of this kind pass without market reaction as a rule, and there is little in the composition here to suggest otherwise. What follows it in the sequence is whether the coincident index revision shifts the government's cycle assessment, and beyond that the releases that feed the next BoJ meeting rather than this one.
