The formulation matters more than the substance. 'Working closely with the government' is the standard phrasing used when a new administration wants to preserve the impression of influence over policy without openly pressuring the bank, and episodes of overt political pressure on the BoJ have historically been the ones that moved JPY and the front of the JGB curve, not boilerplate non-comment. Takaichi's prior form has leaned toward looser monetary settings and scepticism of early normalisation, so the market's read will hinge on whether this restraint is durable or a placeholder ahead of fiscal announcements. The distinction worth drawing is between rhetoric, which has tended to fade quickly, and personnel: BoJ board and governor appointments are where political preference actually transmits into policy. Follow-ons are any comments on the size of the fiscal package, since a large stimulus funded by issuance pressures the long end of JGBs while complicating the BoJ's normalisation calculus, and whether BoJ officials echo or resist the coordination framing. As it stands, this is a non-event by precedent; the signal is in what comes next.
