Meta (META) is reportedly building a cloud business to sell excess AI compute, according to sources

  • Meta Platforms is planning a cloud infrastructure business to sell access to AI compute and models, creating direct competition with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, people familiar with the matter said.
  • Meta has been acquiring data centers and other infrastructure to support its AI development; a potential plan would sell usage rights to various AI models hosted on Meta’s infrastructure—similar to AWS’s Bedrock—while Meta would operate the supporting data centers and chips (including its in‑house Muse Spark model) and charge developers usage fees.
