Mexican Inflation Rate MoM (Jul) M/M 0.03% vs. Exp. 0.02% (Prev. -0.27%)
A monthly Mexican inflation print a hundredth above consensus is within the noise band; the market-moving question in these releases has historically been the split between headline and core, and within core between goods and services, since it is sticky services inflation that has tended to slow Banxico's easing cadence rather than swings in the non-core basket. The swing from the prior negative month to a small positive one is consistent with seasonal base effects and is not in itself a signal. Banxico has in past cycles cut in measured steps while emphasising data dependence, and single modest deviations from consensus have rarely altered that path; what has repriced the front of the TIIE curve and the MXN carry trade is a run of core surprises in one direction, not one print. The follow-ons that matter are the bi-weekly inflation readings, which arrive between monthly prints and have often been the first place a trend change shows, and the tone of the next Banxico statement and minutes. As a data point this is directional rather than decisive.
