Ebrard has prior form in this role, having led earlier trade engagements with Washington, which gives the channel established credibility on both sides. The distinction that matters for pricing is autos versus steel: autos sit inside the regional content framework of the continental trade pact, so concessions there tend to run through origin rules and compliance, while steel has historically resolved into tariff-rate quota structures with volume caps. Signals of engagement rather than escalation have in past episodes compressed risk premia in the peso and in cross-border industrial names, with the reverse on signs of breakdown. The follow-ons are any US counterpart readout, whether the talks get a defined timeline, and linkage, if any, to migration or security conditions Washington has previously attached to trade files. As a statement of intent rather than a concluded deal, the signal is directional, not a resolution.
