New Zealand Food Inflation (Aug YY) 1.9% (Prev. 1.9%)
An unchanged annual print in New Zealand's monthly food price index is a second-tier release that matters mainly as an input into the quarterly CPI rather than as a standalone mover.

The food series is one of the higher-frequency partials the RBNZ watches between quarterly prints, and food carries a meaningful weight in the NZ consumption basket, so a flat reading takes some pressure off the near-term inflation trajectory without settling anything on its own. The relevant transmission is into RBNZ rate expectations at the front of the NZ curve and into the kiwi, though single partial releases of this kind have historically repriced either only at the margin; sustained moves have tended to require the full quarterly CPI or a policy signal. The distinction worth drawing is between sticky domestic non-tradables and the more volatile tradables components, of which food is one: food stabilising says little about the services and housing persistence that has typically driven RBNZ decisions. The follow-ons are the remaining monthly partials and then the quarterly CPI, against the Bank's published forecasts.
