Newsquawk Calendar of Key Events - October 2026
Monthly calendar notes of this kind serve as a positioning frame rather than a catalyst in themselves; the established pattern is that the month's trading narrative forms around the late-month clustering, and this October slate is heavily back-loaded.

The final week stacks a Fed, BoC, RBNZ, ECB and BoJ decision alongside the first read on Q3 US GDP, September PCE and the UK Autumn Budget, a concentration that has historically suppressed conviction positioning in the weeks prior and compressed realised volatility into the event window itself. The early-month sequence follows the standard shape: NFP and the ISM surveys set the Fed pricing baseline, which the mid-month CPI and PPI then confirm or challenge, with the FOMC minutes in between typically re-litigating a decision markets have already moved past. Worth noting are the second-order items with a record of moving their local rates markets: the repeated long-end Treasury buybacks in the liquidity support programme, which tend to matter for 20s30s dynamics on the day, the Moody's review of France, which has a history of widening OAT-Bund spreads when the sovereign is already under fiscal scrutiny, and the Canadian and Norwegian prints ahead of their respective central banks. The UK Budget carries the usual gilt and sterling tail risk given how prior fiscal events of that type have repriced the curve when debt dynamics were in focus. As a calendar rather than a print, the note is organisational; the risk lies in the week five pile-up.
