Data: Swedish CPIF Final (Aug), Canadian CPI (Aug) Speakers: ECB's Schnabel, Cipollone, Lagarde
Final readings of inflation series of this kind have historically been non-events unless they revise the flash print, with the Riksbank's policy rate reacting to the underlying CPIF trend rather than last-stage confirmation. Canadian CPI carries more standalone weight given the Bank of Canada's sensitivity to its preferred core measures, and surprises there have tended to move the front end of the Canadian curve and the loonie more than headline FX. A heavy ECB speaker slate on a single day is typically an opportunity for the governing council to shape rate expectations between meetings; markets have tended to treat Lagarde's remarks as the binding signal when her tone diverges from that of more hawkish or dovish colleagues. The practical distinction on such days is between fresh information, which is rare in scheduled remarks, and repetition that firms up the prevailing consensus, which is the more common outcome.
