The week clusters risk in the classic mid-week pattern: the US CPI print on Wednesday anchors the calendar, with PPI and retail sales on the following days forming the usual sequence by which the front end re-prices after an inflation surprise in either direction. Weeks of this shape have historically seen positioning compress into the CPI release and the curve do its week's work in the session after it, with Thursday's claims and Friday's retail data acting as confirmation or fade trades on the initial move. Two rate decisions flank the calendar at opposite ends of the policy spectrum: the RBA, where the press conference tone has tended to matter as much as the decision itself, and Norges Bank, a smaller central bank whose krone sensitivity to oil and the rate path is well established. The BoJ summary of opinions opens the week and has on previous occasions pre-committed yen volatility when it hints at internal division on timing. Supply runs through the week from Germany, the UK and the US, and in CPI weeks the auction tail into or out of the data has been a recurring tell for demand. The dual IEA and OPEC monthly reports mid-week set the crude balance narrative, and the earnings slate across semiconductors, miners and shipping gives a cross-check on the goods cycle.
