Strikes on Russian refining capacity have been a recurring feature of the conflict, and the established pattern is that the market impact runs through products rather than crude: damaged distillation capacity cuts diesel, gasoline and fuel oil output while leaving the crude itself available for export, which has historically widened product cracks and at times pushed more unprocessed Russian barrels onto the water. The distinction worth drawing is between a brief halt for inspection and structural damage to the CDU or secondary units; past episodes have ranged from days of downtime to outages measured in weeks, and the early reporting rarely settles which. Russia has responded to prior waves of refinery hits with export restrictions on gasoline and diesel, so any official commentary on domestic supply or export curbs is the usual follow-on. The scale of Yaroslavl as a sizeable inland plant matters more for the domestic product balance than for seaborne flows. Until damage assessments emerge, the signal is directional for middle distillate and gasoline cracks rather than for outright crude.
