A large domestic asset manager publicly flagging junk risk at a flagship national issuer is the kind of intervention that tends to matter less for its content than for its visibility: credit deterioration at legacy autos in transition is well documented, but public pressure from a major German holder raises the reputational cost for both issuer and rating agencies and can accelerate the agencies' timetable. The distinction worth drawing is between a warning premised on cost delivery and one premised on demand, since cost programmes are executable and buy time with agencies, whereas structural demand erosion is what has historically pushed autos through the investment grade floor. Fallen angel risk carries a mechanical channel beyond fundamentals: index-eligible buyers face forced selling on a crossover, spreads gap before the event rather than after, and CDS and cash curve tend to reprice on agency outlook changes well ahead of any action. The track record of large European autos shows agencies moving in steps, outlook to negative, review, then cut, giving the issuer windows to present restructuring milestones. Follow-ons are the agencies' next published actions, the shape and credibility of the cost plan, and whether other large holders echo the warning. As a third-party warning reported in the press rather than an agency action, this is signalling rather than event, but it shifts the burden of proof onto the issuer.
