Context

Daily seven-day reverse repo operations are the PBoC's routine liquidity management tool, and an unchanged rate on the operation is the norm rather than news; the policy signal in this framework has tended to come from rate changes on the seven-day tenor, which sit at the centre of the corridor, or from shifts in the medium-term lending facility, not from the size of the daily print. The volume itself is mechanically driven by what matures on the day, so the informative figure is the net injection or drain rather than the gross number, and large gross operations around quarter-end, tax payment dates, or holiday funding needs are standard practice and carry no easing signal. The transmission, when there is one, runs through the short end of the CNY money curve and interbank fixing rates relative to the policy anchor, and through there to the onshore-offshore yuan basis and CNY fixing expectations. What is worth watching is the spread between market funding rates and the 1.40% anchor, any persistent net draining or injecting across a run of sessions, and the upcoming MLF and loan prime rate settings, which are where actual policy intent has historically been expressed. As a standalone print with the rate steady, this is operational rather than directional.
