Context

Daily 7-day reverse repo operations are the PBoC's routine liquidity management tool, and a modest injection with the rate unchanged is business as usual rather than a policy signal. The information content in these operations sits in two places: the net open market position once maturing volumes are netted off, and any change in the rate itself, which since the 7-day became the lead policy rate carries the weight that the MLF rate used to. An unchanged rate keeps attention on the monthly LPR fixings and the MLF operation as the next points where easing intent would show up. Historically, larger or undersized daily injections around quarter-end, tax payment dates and government bond issuance windows have signalled liquidity stress rather than policy shifts, so the size here matters mainly against the day's maturities and the funding backdrop in the interbank market, where the 7-day repo fixings and DR007 relative to the policy rate are the usual tell. As a standalone headline, this is maintenance.
