Context
The headline configuration is a hold against a consensus priced for tightening, which makes the surprise dovish in relative terms: the expected hike has not materialised, and the policy rate stays where it was. For an emerging-market board of this kind, deviations from a priced hike have historically hinged on whether the statement frames the pause as a one-meeting deferral or as a completed cycle; the former keeps the next meeting live and concentrates sensitivity in short-dated rates and the currency, the latter tends to flatten the front of the local curve and release pressure on the sol. The transmission channel to watch is the rate differential against the dollar, which for the sol operates through carry positioning and local-currency bond flows rather than through any deep offshore derivatives market, so moves tend to be concentrated in the currency and the short end. Peru's central bank has in past episodes moved in small, deliberate increments and communicated through its statement language on inflation expectations and activity, so the wording on whether inflation is converging to target is the operative tell. Follow-ons are the statement text, any accompanying inflation report revisions, and whether the next meeting's pricing rebuilds the hike or abandons it. Confidence is tempered by the fact that a hold against a hike consensus is unambiguous in direction but not in duration.
