Polish CPI Prel (Sep MM) 0.7% (Prev. 0.3%)

Polish preliminary CPI is a first-pass print compiled ahead of the final release, and revisions between the two have historically been small enough that the prelim is treated as the signal for the month.

Context

A reacceleration of this kind on the month-on-month measure, after a softer prior print, fits the familiar Polish pattern of energy, fuel and administered-price swings driving the headline rather than a clean read on underlying momentum; the distinction worth drawing is between base-effect and regulated-price noise on one side and core services stickiness on the other, since the National Bank of Poland has framed its own reaction around the latter. For the rates and zloty channel, what has mattered in comparable episodes is whether a firmer monthly print moves the year-on-year trajectory away from the path the central bank has pencilled into its projections, with front-end Polish rates and EUR/PLN the transmission points rather than anything broader. The follow-ons are the core inflation release, which strips food and energy and carries more weight with the council, the final CPI confirmation, and any NBP commentary that characterises the print as transitory or otherwise. Poland's monetary council has on previous occasions looked through headline volatility driven by administered prices, so the print alone rarely settles the policy question.
