  • 15:05BST/10:05EDT: Fed’s Barr (voter) will speak on housing and community development. The subject of his talk implies risks that Barr will not comment on monetary policy. Speaking in early September, before the FOMC confab, Barr said he would support raising rates if inflation does not moderate sufficiently, adding that inflation remains too high, while the economy is solid and the labour market stable. Barr also said that clearer evidence of inflation returning toward 2% would allow more time to assess the policy stance.
  • 17:00BST/12:00EDT: Fed’s Goolsbee (2027 voter) is due to appear on a podcast. Speaking this week, Goolsbee said US inflation may now be driven by strong demand as well as tariff and energy shocks, with AI investment and high services inflation potentially adding to price pressures. If demand overheating is the through line, the rate response should be more aggressive and front-loaded.
