PRIMER - Today’s Fedspeak includes: Collins, Kashkari, Logan

Importance
Level 1
  • 16:30BST/11:30EST: Fed’s Collins (2028 voter, neutral) will speak on the economic outlook. Speaking last week, Collins said she still expects interest-rate cuts “down the road” but expects rates to stay on hold “for a longer period”. She expects PCE inflation to move above 3.5% and end the year near 3%, and she backed holding rates. Collins also revealed that she was one of the non-voting members who prefered statement wording that did not signal a cutting bias.
  • 18:15BST/13:15EDT: Fed’s Kashari (2026 voter, hawk) will participate in a moderated discussion. Speaking overnight, Kashkari said the Iran war has added uncertainty to the interest-rate outlook. He said that if the Strait of Hormuz is closed for an extended period, the next Fed move may need to be a rate increase. Kashkari was also among the voting members who dissented on retaining the easing bias within the Fed's latest policy statement.
  • 00:00BST/19:15EDT: Fed’s Logan (2026, hawk) will also participate in a moderated discussion. Speaking earlier in the month, Logan said the Fed should not give guidance implying an easing bias at the moment, given her view that the next rate move could be a cut or a hike. Logannoted that the economic outlook is very uncertain, the labour market is stable, and she is increasingly concerned about returning inflation to 2%.
