Qatar to extend force majeure on LNG deliveries to Pakistan through November
Extensions of force majeure in LNG are usually less about a single lost cargo than about whether a supplier is protecting a long term contract book while a loading, feedgas, or allocation constraint persists.

Qatar’s prior form is that of a portfolio supplier with deep contracted volumes and discretion over destination flexibility, so the precedent is management of offtake obligations first and spot exposure second. The relevant distinction is between firm contractual deliveries to Pakistan, where legal relief changes scheduling and damages, and uncommitted spot cargoes, where global tightness is set only if volume is actually withheld rather than redirected. The transmission runs through South Asian tender demand, substitution into fuel oil and coal for power, and the prompt JKM versus oil linked contract spread rather than through freight unless shipping risk is separately implicated. The follow-ons are notices to other offtakers, Pakistani buy side tenders or cancellations, evidence of cargo diversion toward higher netbacks, and any maintenance or feedgas language that clarifies duration beyond November. Comparable episodes have tended to reprice regional prompt LNG when the buyer re enters the spot market, while a contained bilateral extension often reads as contract housekeeping with limited global signal.
