Rosatom says it has found a solution to operate Hungary’s Paks-2 nuclear project under low river water-level conditions

Cooling-water availability has been the standing technical objection to inland nuclear build-outs on major rivers, and low-flow episodes on the Danube have repeatedly forced output curtailments at existing plants in past heat and drought periods, so a stated engineering fix for Paks-2 removes one of the more concrete permitting and design risks hanging over the project. Statements of this kind from Rosatom function as schedule assurance as much as engineering disclosure; the vendor's form in prior export projects has been to announce solutions at milestones while financing and regulatory sequencing, in this case under EU and Hungarian oversight, do the actual pacing. The transmission channel is long-dated rather than prompt: Hungarian baseload expectations and the regional power balance years out, not near-term curve pricing. Worth watching is whether the Hungarian regulator and the project's financing parties validate the claim, since vendor assertions without counterpart sign-off have historically been a weak signal.
